About Us

Ability Counts was established by a group of dedicated educators and employers who recognized the need for a community-based workplace for adults with developmental disabilities—one that would focus on meaningful work, high productivity, and quality employment training.

In April 1980, Ability Counts was founded as a private, nonprofit organization, starting with just one employee providing custodial maintenance at Systems & Applied Sciences in Anaheim, California. By August 1980, the organization was officially incorporated in the State of California. Since then, Ability Counts has continued to expand, offering a growing array of employment and training opportunities to an increasing number of individuals with disabilities.
